Alex Carmenates, known professionally as DJ Cubanito, is a Houston-based Latin remixer, producer, and DJ with a decades-long career. A major force in promoting Latin dance music in the U.S., Cubanito has produced numerous #1 club hits, including remixes for Luis Fonsi, Paulina Rubio, and Gloria Trevi. Using various aliases like Morpheous Van Susteren and Alex C., he has consistently topped Billboard dance charts and other industry ratings. An inductee into the Houston House Music Hall of Fame, his work has propelled both Latin dance music and earlier genres like Freestyle and House.
Beyond the studio, Cubanito has been a prominent figure in radio and journalism. He was a music and program director for Houston radio stations KQQK and “La Bomba” 103.3 FM, where his weekly mix shows achieved top Arbitron status. As a journalist, he wrote the “Latin Rhythms” column for DMA Magazine for five years and served as the founder and president of the National Latin Record Pool Directors Association. He has been recognized with multiple Latin Dance Music Awards, including a Lifetime Achievement Award in 2003, and continues to DJ and host radio mix shows today.
