Coronavirus in Monroe County: 127 total deaths, 33 new confirmed cases, bringing total to 1,537

The Monroe County Department of Health announced Sunday one new death and 33 new confirmed cases of COVID-19, bringing the total number of cases to 1,537.

A total of 127 people have now died from COVID-19 in Monroe County.

As of Sunday, the county’s COVID-19 dashboard shows 105 people are currently hospitalized and 22 of them are in ICU on a ventilator.

Of the 1,537 confirmed cases, 711 people have recovered from the disease. The health department says 882 people — confirmed positive COVID-19 cases and known presumed positive COVID-19 cases — have recovered from isolation to date.

On Tuesday, the county shared this breakdown of deaths by age:

It shows only three of the dead were younger than 59.

The first person to die from the novel coronavirus in Monroe County was a 54-year-old man who died at Rochester General Hospital on March 17. Two of the dead were residents of the Ontario Center for Rehabilitation and Healthcare in Hopewell. One was a resident of The Hurlbut Nursing Home in Brighton.
